Dayton has now ended two long droughts against opponents it frequently plays.
Two weeks after defeating Crosby for the first time in 12 years, the Broncos picked up their first win over Porter since 2015, 42-20, Friday night at Randall Reed Stadium in non-district play.
The Broncos (2-1) had previously lost six straight against the Spartans (1-2) and bounce back gracefully after a tough 20-point loss last week at Kingwood Park.
Porter took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter before Dayton responded with three unanswered touchdowns before halftime.
The Broncos went up 28-7 in the third quarter with a defensive score before the offense added two more end zone visits before the night concluded.
Dayton quarterback Jerry Prieto Jr had his hand on three touchdowns with two passes and a 5-yard run in the second half. He connected with Braeden White and Marcus James for long throws in the second quarter.
Both White and James had 61 receiving yards, respectively, on the night.
Running back Jaleel Kendrick hit the end zone twice to begin and conclude Dayton’s scoring on the night. He finished with a workman-like 154 yards on 26 attempts.
The Broncos looked to their defense for a third quarter score when Devin Tanner pounced on a fumble in the end zone for six points.
Prieto Jr was 12-for-18 for 177 yards and he also rushed for 36 yards.
Dalen Tobar had 53 receiving yards.
Dayton is on a bye this coming week before beginning District 8-5A (Division II) Sept. 27 at Montgomery for its third consecutive road game.
Porter returns to action the same night with its District 11-5A (Division I) opener at home against Angleton.
