Klein Cain (4-1, 2-1) at Magnolia (3-1, 2-0)
The details: 7 p.m. Friday, Bulldog Stadium
History: First meeting
Key player for Klein Cain: Senior running back Jaelon Dixon has had an outstanding first half of the season for the Hurricanes. Dixon has rushed for 736 yards and 11 touchdowns while also catching four touchdown passes and 176 yards.
Key player for Magnolia: Senior Jace Chadwick has been Mr. Consistent for the Bulldogs. When we last saw Magnolia in Week 4 at Tomball Memorial, Chadwick led the team with seven tackles, including a sack, and he forced a fumble. Chadwick has 11 tackles through two District 15-6A games.
Stat attack: It wasn’t an eye-popping number, but the 272 rushing yards Magnolia totaled in the 38-33 Sept. 20 win at Tomball Memorial was a large reason for a successful night. Colin Leahey totaled 159 yards and Cash Ferrell had 113.
Notables: Magnolia played without starting quarterback Chase Lowery against Tomball Memorial due to an injury … In Lowery’s place, Teague Clements through for 93 yards and had a couple huge completions to Joseph Solomon, who totaled a team-high 60 receiving yards … Special teams were also huge in the win as kicker Gavin Gonzales was 5-for-5 on extra-point attempts, made a 30-yard field goal and had three touchbacks while Kale Schaefer blocked a punt … While Magnolia rested last week, Klein Cain returned to the win column with a 55-14 decision over Tomball Memorial … The Hurricanes were stunned the week before in a 33-32 loss to Klein Oak … Klein Cain has made the playoffs five straight years and has only missed once in its debut season in 2018.
