Week 11 football preview capsule: Kingwood at Humble

Kingwood (5-4, 3-3) at Humble (5-4, 3-3)

The details: 1 p.m. Saturday, Turner Stadium
History: Humble and Kingwood meet for the seventh straight year and what has been a pretty balanced rivalry as of late. Kingwood is 4-2 in those games, including a 35-25 victory last year. Humble won 22-19 in 2022.

Key player for Kingwood: Senior running back Marquez Davis has toted the rock for 1,180 yards this season and 14 touchdowns. Davis has five 100-yard games. He went over 2,000 rushing yards in his varsity career back on Oct. 25 against C.E. King.

Key player for Humble: Senior linebacker Juan Lolesio returned last week after missing a couple games due to injury. A big piece of the defensive puzzle, he totaled three tackles and hurried the Goose Creek Memorial quarterback twice last week.

Stat attack: McArthur Baker III is a couple touchdowns away from eclipsing 100 points on the season. The senior back has contributed 92 of Humble’s 206 points. He has 13 rushing scores and two receptions, including one in the win over the Patriots last week.

Notable: In terms of the final playoff spot in District 23-6A, Humble’s objective is pretty clear this week – win and hope for the best … The Wildcats will have a better sense of what it needs on Saturday after C.E. King plays Channelview Friday night … An Humble win and a King loss would clinch a playoff spot … An Humble win and a King win would make for a three-way tie … A Kingwood win would clinch the Mustangs’ first playoff spot since 2019 … The Wildcats are going for their sixth win of the season, their best result since winning 10 in 2019.
