Turnover bug hinders Tigers in loss at Tomball

Conroe head coach Tamisha Houston was proud of the effort. But the turnover bug got the best of the Tigers Tuesday night.

On the road at Tomball for a non-district game, Conroe fell 39-35.

The Tigers have dropped three of their last four and will look to improve on ball possession later this week in the next one.

Conroe (4-3) turned it over 24 times on the night. Tomball (4-0) beat the Tigers for the second straight season and remained unbeaten on the young season. It also beat District 13-6A’s Oak Ridge last week.

Junior Riley Gross scored all nine of her points in the first half. She paced Conroe with eight of the team’s 10 first-quarter points. Freshman Kayleigh Phillips made her only bucket of the night in the first.

Conroe led 21-18 at halftime and allowed just four points in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 29-22.

The Tigers made just one bucket in the fourth quarter – a 3-pointer by Carly Boothe. Boothe finished with two 3s and seven points.

Senior Alisa Sneed totaled seven as well and junior Taylor Smith added four.

Conroe returns home Friday for a 5 p.m. game with Liberty. The teams have no recent meetings, but the Panthers are 2-1 after beating West Hardin Tuesday night.
