The Kingwood Mustangs got the offense tuned up over four games at the NFCA Texas Leadoff Classic.
In the four games Kingwood was able to get in over Thursday and Friday, the Mustangs scored 37 runs to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Due to ongoing weather and field condition issues, the tournament this year was switched to a round robin format.
Kingwood is back in action this Thursday-Saturday as a part of hosting the Humble ISD Tournament.

Friday’s games
Kingwood was consistent in Friday’s games, scoring eight runs in each contest as it topped Walnut Grove and Leander Rouse. The Mustangs beat the Wildcats 8-6 followed by Raiders 8-4.
Against Walnut Grove, Kingwood scored all eight runs in the first three innings to build the lead before the Wildcats finished with six unanswered runs on nine hits.
Kingwood had six extra-base hits as Hunter Quentel led the way with a 2-for-3 game with a double, a triple and an RBI. Leilani Garcia also tripled and had an RBI. Frei Pizzaro, Mia Gagliardi and McKenna Holm each doubled. Holm led the Mustangs with two RBIs while Gagliardi, Pizarro and Kendall Yates had one RBI.
Yates pitched the first three innings with three earned runs allowed (two strikeouts) while Lyndsie Gilmen pitched the final two innings with two earned runs allowed (one strikeout). Both gave up four hits, respectively.
Against Rouse, Kingwood scored all eight runs over the final three innings of the six-inning game (time limit). Rouse led 2-1 through four innings and then tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth before the Mustangs picked up four runs in the top of the sixth.
Up 6-4, Gagliardi provided two insurance runs with a double which scored Abella Mata and Addyson Sheppard.
Garcia homered and totaled four RBIs while Quentel had a triple. Yates was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Gilmer pitched one inning with an earned run allowed. Quentel went five innings with three earned runs on eight hits and one walk. She struck out six.
Thursday’s games
The Mustangs outscored both their opponents on the first day of the tournament 21-0.
Kingwood upended Pebble Hills 19-0 followed by a 2-0 win over Flower Mound.
Against Pebble Hills, which lasted three innings as the Mustangs piled on eight runs in the first and seven more in the second, the Mustangs hammered 12 hits and Garcia went off for six RBIs.
Garcia was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and two stolen bases.
Quentel doubled twice and had two RBIs. Pizarro doubled twice and drove in three runs while also scoring three times. Sheppard and Mia Chaires each had two RBIs.
Gilmer pitched all three innings with three strikeouts and one hit allowed.
Kingwood needed runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to defeat the Jaguars.
