For the second straight year, the girls basketball coaches of District 13-6A recognized Alisa Sneed as the league’s top defender.
After the final district team was eliminated earlier this week, postseason awards were released with Sneed garnering the Defensive Most Valuable Player award.
Sneed, a point guard, posted career-high averages in rebounding (5.1 per game) and steals (3.9 per game). She hauled in 2.9 defensive rebounds per game.
Last year when she shared the award as a junior, Sneed averaged 5 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game. Sneed was also recognized on the Academic All-District team.

For the fourth time, Grand Oaks senior Bree Riley won district Most Valuable Player as the Grizzlies won the district title and advanced to the regional semifinals.
Grand Oaks head coach Shiakiea Carter was recognized as Coach of the Year after the Grizzlies went 31-4 and 16-0 in district play.
The Woodlands senior Aiden Pino was selected as Offensive Most Valuable Player.
Oak Ridge freshman Kylee Jameson was voted Newcomer of the Year.
Conroe had two selections to the first team. Junior post players Riley Gross and Taylor Smith were both recognized.
Also making first team were Grand Oaks’ Avery Campbell (sophomore), Hannah Reynolds (sophomore) and Avery Dalton (senior).
The Woodlands also had three first-team picks in Caelyn Hoffman (junior), Isa Alaniz (junior) and Rachael Roberts (sophomore).
Also making first team were senior Synarea Reece (Oak Ridge), junior Brooke Smith (College Park), senior Nija Calyen (Willis) and junior Emily McCants (New Caney).
Conroe had one second team selection as freshman guard Kayleigh Phillips earned that spot in her debut year.
Also making second team were Evangelina Despain (Grand Oaks), Matea Stroder (The Woodlands), Katie Westwood (College Park), Valentina Campos (College Park), Jordan Daigle (Oak Ridge), Harley Washington (Oak Ridge), Amy Roberts (Willis), Alyssa Manuel (Caney Creek), Yeiry Zamudio (Caney Creek), Paytience Ellis (Cleveland) and Aaliyah Jackson (Cleveland).
Conroe also had four honorable mentions – sophomore guard Maliyah Harrison, junior guard Damiri Anderson), junior forward Anastacha McGowen and sophomore guard Carly Boothe.
Gross, Smith, Harrison and Boothe as well as freshman Everly Cumpian were varsity members of Conroe who made Academic All-District.
