Phillip’s two golds leads Magnolia at Lamar Consolidated ISD Relays

Led by two gold medals by senior Sophia Phillip, the Magnolia Bulldogs put on a fine performance Thursday afternoon at the Lamar Consolidated ISD Relays at Traylor Stadium.

Without running a single relay, the Bulldogs compiled 109.5 points for a second place finish among the host district’s teams

Fulshear was first with 130 points, Foster was third with 84 and George Ranch and Lamar Consolidated tied for fourth with 71 points apiece.

Phillip, who signed with Sam Houston last month, won a tightly-contested 800-meter run and breezed to the finish line all alone in the 1,600.

With a time of 2:19.70 in the 800, Phillip came across the line 3.17 seconds ahead of Fulshear’s Abby Counter. Sophomore teammate Jenna Bash came in fourth place in 2:27.79.

Later in the 1,600, Phillip was flying as her run of 5:05.75 was 18.79 seconds ahead of silver medalist Cassandra Alvarez of George Ranch.

Freshman Kiran Ripley earned her second medal of the day with bronze in the 1,600. Ripley finished in 5:25.23. Sophomore Khloe Horn was fifth in 5:29.68.

Ripley picked up her first medal of the day as she earned silver in the 3,200. She was six seconds off the leader’s pace in 11:58.99. Horn took bronze with a 12:12.38 finish.

In the 400 run, freshman Amariah Molden took silver in 57.33, just behind the 55.55 pace of Fulshear’s Alyssa Jones. Molden tied her own school record set earlier this year. Senior Aiyana Graham Knight finished fifth in 1:00.78.

Molden then placed fifth in a heated 200 run, just 1.41 seconds off of gold medalist Chizaram Stephens of George Ranch.

Magnolia medaled four times in field events.

Jenna Cicherski won silver in the discus with a top throw of 131-5. Addison Evans had a bronze-medal throw of 106-8.

In shot put, Josie Honchell threw 34-10 for a bronze medal.

Graham Knight won bronze in the triple jump with her best leap at 34.4,75.

Allie Hannan just missed the podium in the long jump with a fourth place finish of 16-3.

Magnolia’s next meet is March 14th at the Ruben Jordan Relays hosted by Clear Creek ISD.
