Avila fans 13 as Dayton tops West Fork for first 18-5A win

The Broncos played at home for the first time this season and busted that losing streak while playing one of their best games of the season.

Dayton achieved a series split with West Fork on a 7-2 win Friday night in District 18-5A.

The Broncos (6-11, 1-1) had previously dropped five straight games before taking down the Gators (9-5, 1-1), who won 3-2 Tuesday night.

Junior pitcher Sebastian Avila was sensational on the mound with a season-high 13 strikeouts as he went the distance for the complete game. He allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks.

At the plate, Avila was 2-for-3 with two doubles. He was one of three Broncos with two RBIs.

Luke Ressler got Dayton on the board in the bottom of the second with a two-run double. He also walked twice.

Ivan Lopez also drove in two runs and Peyton Trahan was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs.

Anthony Zuniga, Avila, Kyler Moreau, Manny Castillo and Ressler each scored a run.

After West Fork made it a 2-1 game in the top of the third, Dayton scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull away.

Next week, Dayton hosts Livingston on Tuesday and travel to the Lions on Friday in a pair of non-district games.
