Clear Creek scores late to knock off Deer Park

Deer Park held Clear Creek off the board for five innings Tuesday night. Then the Wildcats got going.

Clear Creek scored twice in the bottom of the sixth and then a sacrifice bunt and an error scored runs in the bottom of the seventh as the Wildcats prevailed 4-3 in District 24-6A.

It was the first loss since March 18 for Deer Park (17-6, 7-2), who have now lost twice in the same district season since 2012.

Clear Creek (13-3, 7-2) moves up the district standings and are tied for first.

It was the second one-run outcome between the two this season as Deer Park won 5-4 on March 7.

Deer Park scored all three of its runs in the sixth inning.

Mia Montemayor hit a solo homer to make it 1-0. Caitlyn Wade then doubled home Journey Calderon three batters later. Reily Hernandez then drove home Wade on a single with two outs.

Deer Park finished with seven hits as Wade and Hernandez each had two and both doubled.

Madi Alvarado pitched five innings with two earned runs allowed. She struck out two and allowed five hits. Jones went 1⅓ with both runs allowed unearned. She gave up a hit and walked three.

Deer Park returns come Friday to face Clear Brook.
