Conroe heads into Christmas break victorious over Willis

In Conroe’s final game of the 2024 calendar year, Riley Gross’ third consecutive double-digit scoring effort helped the Tigers get back on track Friday afternoon in a 44-32 District 13-6A victory at Willis.

Gross led the Tigers (10-8, 3-4) with 10 points, three days after a 17-point, 17-rebound performance on Tuesday against Grand Oaks.

Willis (4-10, 3-4) has four of its last five games after defeating New Caney by a point on Tuesday night.

Gross, a junior forward, showed her range with three 3-pointers against the Grizzlies. Against Willis, Gross scored in each quarter and made a pair of free throws down the stretch.

Freshman forward Christy Rogers totaled eight points two games after a career-high 15 points last Friday.

Senior point guard Alisa Sneed got things rolling for the Tigers with all seven of her points in the first half. Sophomore Carly Boothe had six points while freshman Kayleigh Phillips finished with five points.

Conroe extended its two-point lead at halftime by outsourcing the Wildkats 26-19 in the second half.

Conroe is now 18-1 against Willis dating back to 2010.

The Tigers are now off until Jan. 4 when they host Caney Creek at 12:30 p.m.
