Dayton takes series sweep of Porter

Dayton didn’t have much luck last year against Porter. The Broncos swept them skillfully this week.

In a District 18-5A game delayed to Saturday and played at New Caney High School, Dayton beat the Spartans for the second time this week, this time 5-2.

It was the second complete game tossed by Dayton (10-11, 3-1), which has won five straight games. Porter (13-8, 3-3) came into the week winners of three straight until it ran into the Broncos

After Hunter Wallace tossed a gem in a 4-1 win Tuesday, it was junior Sebastian Avila’s turn this time. Avila struck out five, allowed just three hits and two walks for one earned run for his third straight win.

At the dish, Dayton piled up 13 hits as nine different players contributed.

Peyton Trahan and Luke Ressler each knocked in a run. Trahan was 2-for-3 with a double.

Kyler Moreau also doubled as a part of a 3-for-4 day. He scored two runs.

Anthony Zuniga added two hits while Manny Castillo doubled and scored a run.

Zuniga and Ressler each stole a base.

Porter won both meetings over Dayton last year by a combined three runs.

Dayton carries its winning streak into Tuesday with a home game against Splendora.
