Braelynn Jones and the defense behind her beared down in the circle as Deer Park came through with the District 24-6A victory at Doll Field Friday night.
With the tying run at second, the go-ahead run at first and one out, Zoie Powell snatched a line drive at first and touched the base for a game-ending double play as the Deer topped Clear Creek 5-4.
Deer Park (12-4, 2-0) extended its winning streak to seven games with the win. Clear Creek (7-3, 1-1), meanwhile, saw its winning streak end at four games. The Wildcats opened district play with an 8-6 win over Dickinson Tuesday night.
As Deer Park led 5-2 after five innings, Clear Creek scored twice in the sixth to make to the tight finish.
Deer Park totaled eight hits as the top three in the order accounted for seven of those.
Leadoff hitter Kayla Barras was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, No. 2 hitter Mariah Ramirez was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Mia Montemayor was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Camryn Plocheck led the Deer with a pair of RBIs
Journey Calderon had the lone extra-base hit with a double and an RBI.
Jones went the distance for the complete game. She allowed just two earned runs on six hits. The Texas Tech recruit struck out four while also walking four.
Deer Park travels to Clear Brook on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
