Deer Park escapes late pressure situation to beat Clear Falls

It was another pressure-packed situation for the Deer this week.

But Braelynn Jones helped her team wiggle out of it Friday night.

Clear Falls loaded the bases in the top of the seventh with the go-ahead run at the plate with two outs.

Jones got the Knight batter to fly out to McCartney Pledger in right as Deer Park hung on for a 4-1 win in District 24-6A.

Deer Park (17-5, 7-1), ranked No. 24 and the district leader, beat Dickinson in extra innings Tuesday night.

Jones allowed just two hits and the only run was unearned. She struck out 11 and walked six.

Journey Calderon and Mia Montemayor produced the biggest hits of the night.

Calderon’s double in the bottom of the first gave the Deer the early 1-0 lead.

With the bases loaded on three consecutive singles by Zoie Powell, Mariah Ramirez and Kayla Barras, Montemayor punched in a two-run double to center to make it 3-1.

Calderon followed with an RBI single for the three-run lead.

Deer Park beat Clear Falls (5-12, 1-6) 12-1 back on March 4 to open district play.

The Deer, who have won three straight and 12 of 13,  travels to Clear Creek Tuesday night.
