Deer Park put an exclamation point on a very successful Barbers Hill Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Playing co-host of the tournament at Doll Field for the third straight day, the Deer defeated two-time defending Class 4A state champs Calallen 2-1 and then ran past Waller 10-1 to end the tournament on a five-game winning streak.
Deer Park (10-4) received a gem from pitchers Braelynn Jones and Madi Alvarado against Calallen, which exited the tournament with a 12-4 record.
Jones went five innings with one hit and one unearned run allowed. She struck out three and walked three. Madi Alvarado got the save with a clean sixth inning. She struck out one.
A day after her first homer of the season, Mia Montemayor tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly that scored Mariah Ramirez.
Daylen Maldonado then gave her team the lead in the fifth with an RBI single that scored Aleena Carrizales.
The Deer hammered out 13 hits against Waller.
Camryn Plocheck capped the day with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning. The senior was 3-for-4 with a double and a team-best five RBIs.
Izzzy Mendoza was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Madison Macias also tripled and drove in two runs. Ramirez and McCartney Pledger had two hits apiece and Reily Hernandez doubled.
Martinez went four innings with four hits allowed for the win. She allowed one earned run. Alvarado pitched a perfect fifth inning.
