Deer react to first district loss by downing Clear Springs

Deer Park gracefully bounced back Friday night.

After its 52-game district winning streak came to an end three nights earlier, the Deer took that personally, it seemed.

With District 24-6A first-place Clear Springs at Doll Field, Deer Park built an early lead and hung on for the 5-2 victory.

Deer Park (15-5, 5-1) are now tied for first with the Chargers (13-3, 5-0), who had won eight straight games coming in.

Clear Springs scored a late run, but Braelynn Jones and the defense limited the damage. Jones went five innings in relief with six strikeouts, four hits, three walks and one earned run. Starter Madi Alvarado went two innings with two hits allowed and one earned run.

Offensively, Caitlyn Wade was 2-for-3 with two RBIs as the Deer finished with six hits and four walks. Mariah Ramirez went 2-for-3 with two runs. Camryn Plocheck had an RBI and a run scored.

Deer Park, winners of 10 of its last 11, wrap up the first round of district play Tuesday night at Dickinson.
