Grand Oaks tops Cleveland, earns 2nd District 13-6A win

Grand Oaks is showing District 13-6A that it has the bats to compete.

In their second district game of the season – and first time on the field for a game since last Monday – the Grizzlies turned a two-run game into an 11-1 victory after scoring eight times in the eighth to move past Cleveland.

Grand Oaks (8-0, 2-0) scored 16 runs eight nights ago against The Woodlands in the district opener.

The Grizzlies totaled 13 hits, walked twice and took advantage of three errors by the Indians.

Out of the 13 hits, one was a homer and eight were for extra bases.

Amira Abukhzam went deep in the top of the seventh for a three-run homer. 

Kiley Milligan doubled twice on a 3-for-4 night. She had two RBIs.

Ava Butler, Arianna Sanchez, Larissa Tavares and Mayce Burkett each doubled while Ev Ynostrosa tripled. Burkett and Alexis Kennedy had two RBIs apiece and Tavares scored two runs.

Kat Mack pitched the first three innings. She didn’t allow a hit, but walked three and struck out one.

Victoria Hernandez went the final four innings. She struck out six, allowed one earned run and three hits without walking any.

Grand Oaks was out of action the end of last week after the Humble ISD Tournament was canceled due to extreme cold weather.

The Grizzlies play in a tournament at Liberty/Dayton/Huffman-Hargrave Thursday through Saturday.

On Thursday, the Grizzlies play Brenham (11 a.m.) and Hardin-Jefferson (1 p.m.) at Dayton. On Friday, they play Liberty (11 a.m.) and Conroe (1 p.m.) at Liberty. On Saturday, Grand Oaks goes to Huffman to play the host Falcons (9 a.m.) and Santa Fe (11 a.m.).
