Jalen Lolesio was asked to do a lot of different things for Humble football in his high school career.
Harassing quarterbacks and trying to stuff the run was the senior’s main role this fall and the coaching staff at nearby Texas Southern University saw something special in that.
Lolesio officially signed with the Tigers during an All-Humble ISD ceremony Wednesday morning.
Lolesio, a native of Alaska, and his older brother, Juan, were key components during a 5-5 season for head coach Robert Murphy.
Lolesio is a three-year letterman for the Wildcats, playing a variety of positions on offense, defense and special teams.
Until this past year, Lolesio was featured more on offense at tight end and as a long snapper on special teams.
Lolesio came to Murphy in the 2024 offseason with an idea to move to defense in what could perhaps be a better fit in the eyes of college recruiters.
He wasn’t wrong.
“I think that’s where his feet are going to be at the next level,” Murphy said in an interview in October. “I think with the defensive line, he’s found a home and is starting to grow into his own. He’s phenomenal on the defensive line. We love him there.”
Listed at 6-foot-3 and 265 pounds, Lolesio was District 23-6A honorable mention. He totaled 44 tackles with six for a loss. He also saw time on offense at fullback and had a rushing touchdown against Channelview.
Texas Southern initially offered to Lolesio back on Oct. 1. The Tigers are going into their second season under ex-NFL star defensive back Chris Dishman, who spent a majority of his pro career on the Houston Oilers.
Texas Southern, a member of the SWAC, went 5-6 last season, but ended on a high note with two straight wins.
