Magnolia and Klein Cain were tied at halftime, but the Hurricanes scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second half to earn a 28-7 win at Bulldog Stadium Friday night.

The loss was a season-low in points scored for the Bulldogs (3-2, 2-1) and their first defeat in district play, snapping a two-game winning streak in the process.

Klein Cain (4-1, 2-1) won its second straight game after droppings its district opener with Klein Oak two weeks ago.

The Hurricanes were sturdy on defense with just a second-quarter touchdown allowed and 217 yards of total offense. Seven points ties a season-low after allowing the same against Cy-Fair in Week 1.

For the fifth straight game, Magnolia senior running back Colin Leahey found the end zone. He totaled 74 yards on 21 carries.

After missing Week 4 at Tomball Memorial, sophomore quarterback Chase Lowery returned for a 9-for-16 effort for 65 yards. He also rushed for 29 yards on four carries. Five different receivers had receptions.

Sophomore Cash Ferrell rushed for 49 yards on 11 attempts.

Hudson Enyart was a leader on defense with six tackles and an interception. Jace Chadwick was the co-leader in tackles.

Josh Garner had three tackles for loss and forced a fumble. Demon Perrino recovered the fumble and assisted on three tackles.

Tanner Covar had five tackles (one for loss) while his brother Tyler Covar had four tackles (one for loss).

Ty Miller chipped in with five tackles and Max Lejsek had two tackles for loss.

Magnolia has a quick turnaround with a Thursday night game at Klein Forest, 7 p.m. at Klein Memorial Stadium. The Golden Eagles (2-4,  fell just short Friday night, 27-26, at Tomball Memorial. They have lost three straight.

Klein Cain is idle this coming week and plays Klein Forest on Oct. 18.
