As a season winds down, coaches love to see a jump in improvement from their players. It’s especially exciting when it’s a player eligible to return next season.
Junior Jade Clay was lights out Friday evening as Oak Ridge earned its ninth sweep in District 13-6A.
Clay had eight kills and was plus-11 in point attempts as the War Eagles surpassed last year’s win total with a 25-16, 25-16, 25-20 sweep at Caney Creek.
Oak Ridge (33-10, 10-5) clinched a playoff spot earlier in the week when it beat Willis.
Clay’s eight kills were a co-team-high as fellow junior Ally Luke matched that number. Clay was 67% on kill attempts while Luke was 44%.
Clay added five blocks and a dig.
Junior Gaby Santiago had four of the War Eagles’ nine digs. She was productive on offense with six kills and she made eight digs.
Junior Leila Ceaser also had six kills and she added three digs.
Senior Bradi Rhodes had a double-double of 19 assists and 13 digs, leading Oak Ridge in both departments.
Junior Guen Blackburn was second in assists with 12 while also adding eight digs.
Junior Riley Dube had nine digs, which was second on the War Eagles, to go along with four assists. Junior Samantha Daley had six assists.
Oak Ridge closes out the regular season at home Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against second place The Woodlands (33-8, 13-2).
