Kingwood handles North Shore 4-1

Lyndsey Gilman didn’t let a top of the first inning unearned run on a pop out affect her.

North Shore took the early lead on No. 15 Kingwood Friday night, but the Mustangs battled back to take the lead in the third inning.

Gilman took it from there for a 4-1 District 23-6A win.

The junior went six innings with five strikeouts, just two hits and one walk allowed. Ava Eilertson picked up the save with a perfect seventh. She struck out two.

Kingwood (12-1-1, 2-0) has allowed just one run over the past three games. The Mustangs have allowed one-or-less runs nine times in 14 games.

It was another strong night at the plate for senior Leilani Garcia, who went 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI.

Leadoff extraordinaire Addyson Sheppard was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Mia Gagliardi and McKenna Holm each had an RBI apiece as the Mustangs totaled eight hits as a team.

North Shore drops to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in district play with the loss.

Kingwood takes a four-game winning streak into next week as it travels to Channelview Tuesday night before hosting rival Atascocita next Friday.
