Kingwood Park piles up runs at NFCA Leadoff Classic

Kingwood Park exploded for 47 runs over four games as it left the  NFCA Texas Leadoff Classic with four wins this week.

The Panthers capped it with a 15-3 win over the Thrall Tigers in four innings Saturday afternoon.

The tournament in Bryan/College Station was altered to a round robin format due to the weather.

Kingwood Park (5-0) scattered 11 hits and Allie Minick and Carley Barbontin took care of business in the circle against Thrall.

Abbey Papadimitriou hit a grand slam, doubled and drove in five runs on a 3-for-3 game.

Ava Klinefelter was 2–for-3 with two RBis and three runs scored. Barbontin and Hadley Heineman each had two RBIs. Haylee Seales and Kendall Olson both doubled.

Minick went the first three innings with two earned runs allowed. She struck out three, walked two and scattered three hits. Barbontin pitched the final inning with an unearned run allowed.

Kingwood Park travels to Goose Creek Memorial for a non-district game on Tuesday.

Friday’s games

Kingwood Park picked up a pair of lopsided wins – 11-3 against Abilene Cooper and 16-0 (four innings) against Round Rock Westwood on the second day of the tournament.

Addi Gomez continued to swing a hot bat as she went 3-for-3 with two RBIs against Cooper. She was among the bottom four hitters in the lineup who each had two RBIs. Olson, Heineman and Seales each drove in two runs. Heineman doubled and tripled on a 2-for-4 game. Seales was 2-for-3.

Klinefelter had a triple and an RBI while Olson doubled. Minick was 3-for-4 while Papadimitriou was 2-for-4.

Minick struck out 10 and allowed three earned runs on four hits over six innings worked.

Against Westwood, Olson homered, doubled and totaled two RBIs on a 2-for-3 game. Klinefelter was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Samantha Barnes was 2-for-2 (triple) with a team-best four RBIs. Papadimitriou, Minick, and Seales each had two RBIs. Minick and Seales both had doubles and Papadimitriout had a triple.

Seales pitched four innings, allowed four hits and struck out three. 

Thursday’s game

The Panthers separated from Argyle with a three-run fifth inning – the final inning played due to the time limit – for a 5-2 win.

Minick started the rally in the fifth with an RBI single to score Barnes and then Brown doubled in Papadimitriou in the next at-bat. Gomez walked with the bases loaded to cap the rally.

Klinefelter and Keilee Brown were both 2-for-2. Klinefelter had a triple, as did Gomez, who finished with a team-high two RBis. Barnes also drove in a run.

Minick went five innings with nine strikeouts, seven walks, four hits allowed and two earned runs.
