Kingwood welcomes GCM to 23-6A with 5 homers

Kingwood played the role of welcoming party to Goose Creek Memorial.

The Patriots’ door prize was watching five homers fly out of their home park.

GCM is a new team to Class 6A and its district debut didn’t go well Tuesday night.

The No. 9-ranked Mustangs hammered the Patriots, 15-0, in four innings to begin District 23-6A.

The Mustangs (11-1-1, 1-0) are now winners of three straight games as they poked out 16 hits while Hunter Quentel didn’t allow any Patriot (14-4, 0-1) hits.

Leilani Garcia homered twice while Addyson Sheppard, Quentel and Samantha Trzecki all went yard.

Kingwood wasn’t done there as it totaled four more extra-base hits. Quentel, Mia Gagliardi and McKenna Holm all doubled while Frei Pizzaro tripled.

Garcia finished with a game-high four RBIs. Sheppard drove in three runs, as did Trzecki. Pizarro, Kendall Yates and Abella Mata each had one RBI.

In the circle, Quentel struck out seven and allowed two walks. She made just 54 pitches while facing 14 batters.

Kingwood has scored 15-or-more runs three times now this season.

The Mustangs host North Shore Friday night at home.
