Klein Cain hands Magnolia first 15-6A loss

Magnolia’s unbeaten streak came to an end at five as the Bulldogs lost their first District 15-6A game of the season Tuesday night, 6-1, to Klein Cain.

The Bulldogs (12-5-1, 4-1) scattered seven hits against the Hurricanes (7-6-3, 4-1), who totaled 15 hits.

Keegan Chavez drove in the lone Magnolia run in the bottom of the fourth on a lineout to center, which scored Ian Pugh. The run cut the deficit to two runs at the time.

Klein Cain, which has won four straight games, added two more runs in the fifth and once more in the sixth.

Karson Dupre was 2-for-4 with a double for Magnolia. Clyde Williams also doubled.

Chavez went five innings with five earned runs allowed. He surrendered 12 hits and one walk to three strikeouts.

Aiden Luscombe pitched two innings of relief with one earned run allowed on three hits. He walked two and struck out one.

The Bulldogs hadn’t lost since March 7 against Brenham.

Game 2 of the series shifts to Klein Cain Friday evening at 7 p.m.
