Magnolia closes Klein ISD Tournament with win over Cy Woods

Clyde Williams scored on an error off the bat of Jordan Enyart and the Magnolia Bulldogs won their final game of the Klein ISD Tournament, 6-5, over Cypress Woods Saturday afternoon.

Magnolia (6-3) went 2-2 over the three-day run. 

The Bulldogs jumped up 5-1 over Cypress Woods (6-3-2) before the Wildcats tied it with four runs between the third and fourth innings.

William Bates (double), Chase Lowery, Ian Pugh and Jacob Hunter each had one RBI each. Keegan Chavez and Enyart both had doubles.

Zach Love was solid in relief as he went the final 2 ⅔ innings for the win. He allowed one unearned run on two hits while striking out two.

Friday’s games

Magnolia took down Hendrickson 4-2 in Friday’s opener before suffering an 11-0 setback to red-hot Kingwood later in the day.

Against Hendrickson, Pugh homered for the second time in three games as he went 3-for-4.

Lowery had an RBI triple and Jhett Bubke also drove in a run.

Enyart was 2-for-4 with a double while Bates and Love were also 2-for-4.

Josh Hunter shouldered the load on the mound with 5⅔ innings worked. He struck out three, allowed seven hits and four walks. The lone run he allowed was unearned.

Braylon Hobbie picked up the save with a scoreless sixth inning. He struck out one and allowed one hit.

Against Kingwood, Magnolia was held to one hit, which came from Lowery on a double.

Through Thursday’s games, Kingwood was 11-0. Its four Klein ISD wins were by a combined 34-7.

Thursday’s game

After playing Klein Oak to a 4-2 win Wednesday night, the Bulldogs came to the Panthers’ home field Thursday to start the Klein ISD Tournament against Seven Lakes.

Magnolia saw another master performance on the mound, but the bats didn’t match it in a 1-0 loss to Katy Seven Lakes.

The five innings pitched at the time added to a run of 28 of 30 previous innings without runs allowed.

Seven Lakes broke through in the bottom of the fifth with the lone run off reliever Jacob Neely. 

Starter Aidan Luscombe went four innings of shutout ball with one hit allowed. He walked four and struck out two. 

Magnolia had six hits, led by Lowery with a 2-for-3 game.
