By all accounts, it was a very strong start to the 2025 outdoor track and field season for the Magnolia girls.
The Bulldogs shined in their debut by winning the Katy Paetow Quad Meet Friday by 21 points over the host Panthers.
Magnolia had medalists in 14 of 17 events as it totaled 196 points. Paetow finished with 175 points, Jersey Village had 87 and Katy Morton Ranch was fourth with 80.
Magnolia head coach Marquis Bean named freshman Raegan Garcia the meet’s Most Valuable Player. Garcia was the anchor in the gold-medal winning 800-meter relay that finished in 1:47.96. Allie Hannan, Hannah Alvarez and Kate Price setup Garcia for the winning sprint to the line.
Garcia was also the anchor of the 400 relay that finished third in 50.52. Alvarez, Hunter Hook and Kate Price ran the first three lengths.
Garcia was also the anchor on Magnolia’s second 1600 relay team that finished fourth in 4:22.60 and she was fourth in the long jump at 16 feet, 5½ inches.
Magnolia had plenty of gold medalists, starting with the 3,200 run where the Bulldogs swept the podium spots.
Senior Sophia Phillip won gold in 11:36.65 while Kinly Schanbachler was second in 12:38.19 and Kennedy Shields was third in 13:01.00.
In the 800, freshman Amariah Molden was first place in 2:26.61 while Dulce Lazaro earned bronze in 2:32.00.
Mary Stinebaugh was 1st in the 1,600 run in 5:42.33.
In field events, Jenna Cicherski was the gold medalist in discus with a throw of 123-3. Teammate Josie Honchell was second with a throw of 111-0. Honchell also earned a bronze in shot put with a throw of 29-5.
Madilynn Stokes won gold in the high jump with a top leap of 4-10.
Heidi Posluszny (100 hurdles, 18.73), Hannan (300 hurdles, 52.38) and Unruh (200 dash, 25.49) all won silver medals, respectively. Posluszny also took third in the high jump (4-4).
In a thrilling finish to the running events, Molden, Gertrude Osafo, Phillip and Unruh finished second in the 1,600 relay in 4:05.68, just .20 off the pace of Paetow’s win at the line.
Magnolia returns to action this Wednesday at the Splendora Wildcat Relays.
