Magnolia hadn’t had a meet with the full squad together since Feb. 12.
On Saturday at the College Station Cougar Relays, the Bulldogs had a memorable day.
Especially for the 4X200 of Aiyana Graham Knight, Violet Unruh, Gertrude Osafo and Amariah Molden.
A new school record was set in the race as the four combined on a 1:47.72 and a silver medal.
That silver medal helped Magnolia to a fourth place finish as Katy won the event with 224 points, College Station was second with 187.5, Lake Creek had 128 and Magnolia’s 90 points was well ahead of Waco’s 32 in fifth place.
It was a balanced day as Bulldogs earned medals in all three relays as well as the sprint medley relay. Three total gold medals were brought home.
While the 4X200 relay was good for a school record, the 4X100 relay was good for gold.
The 4X100 was run first and Knight Graham, Unruh, Osafo and Kate Price finished in 48.46 seconds, just .41 seconds ahead of College Station.
The 4X400 relay also brought home some medals. In a bronze medal time of 4:03.85, Unruh (first leg) and Knight Graham (third leg) won their third relay medal of the day while Molden (second leg) took her second relay medal and Sophia Phillip (fourth leg) got her first relay medal to go along with two individuals.
The SMR of Osafo, Hunter Hook, Hannah Alvarez and Dulce Luzaro won bronze in 4:23.75.
Phillip won a heated 800 by 1.92 seconds for gold. She finished in 2:18.15.
Later, Phillip placed second in the 1,600 with a time of 5:07.38, just .17 behind Katy’s Victoria Guerrero.
The rest of the medals for the Bulldogs came in field events.
Senior Jenna Cicherski took gold in the discus by the slightest of margins.
Her top throw of 129-07 beat Katy’s Breanna Murphy by an inch.
Teammate Jose Honchell, meanwhile, just missed the podium by nine inches. The junior took fourth with a top throw of 104-01 and she was also fourth in the shot put at 33-01, just missing the podium by four inches.
Graham Knight earned one more medal with a long jump silver of 16-04.
Magnolia’s next meet is the Lamar Consolidated ISD Relays on Thursday.
