McKee, England lead the way for Lake Creek at Spartan Relays

Lake Creek traveled to the Porter Spartan Relays with just a select few athletes. And those athletes made some pretty positive statements.

The Lions saw their school high jump record fall and seven medals were won as they took on Porter, Huffman, Splendora, New Caney and Galena Park Wednesday afternoon.

Peyton McKee was the headlining story for Lake Creek as the new holder of the program high jump mark at 5-foot, 5 inches. Her leap was three inches higher than Porter’s Aniya Huddleston to win the gold medal.

McKee broke the record of current teammate Jade Oravainen, which was set 5-4 at the March 2 College Station Cougar Relays. McKee leaped at 5-2 during that meet.

Ashlynn England brought in just short of half of Lake Creek’s medal haul with three.

The multi-talented sophomore earned medals in the 100-meter dash, the 200 and the long jump.

England took bronze in the 100 with a time of 13 seconds flat. Her silver-medal sprint in the 200 was timed at 26.43, just .86 seconds behind gold medalist Cyrene White of Huffman-Hargrave.

England then set a personal record in the long jump with a bronze-medal winning leap of 15-11.

Senior Bella Eulitt had a quality day in Porter as well. Eulitt took home two medals, first taking gold in the 3,200 run in 12:26.10. Eulitt was four seconds ahead of the pack at the finish line.

She then won bronze in the 1,600 as she trailed Rosario Botello by 1.37 seconds.

In the triple jump, freshman Kenley Housman earned her first varsity medal. It was a silver as Housman jumped 34-8.

Just short of the podium were Frankie Knox in the 800 and Evelyn Lovan in the pole vault.

Lake Creek will be at full strength next Thursday at the Magnolia Dog Pound Invitational.
