Lake Creek’s last full varsity meet was back on Valentine’s Day.
You could tell Saturday that the Lions were eager to make up for lost time when it came to shattering some records.
The Lions set four new school records with a few personal bests mixed in as they placed third as a team at the College Station Cougar Relays.
Katy won the meet with 224 points while the host Cougars had 187.5. Lake Creek totaled 128 with Magnolia following at 128.
The biggest statement Saturday was made by the Lions sprint medley relay team of Maggie Ogorchock, Sydney Spikerman, Addie Micklos and Hailey Johnson.
The quartet shook the school record book with a 3:57.50, beating the old mark by seven seconds. Yes, that’s a relay run gold Saturday. But also took their place atop the high school SMR rankings with the fastest time in the country.
The next big Lake Creek storyline from the meet? That would be Jade Oravainen.
The multi-talented junior set two individual school records in the 100-meter hurdles on the track and the high jump. She was also a member of the new school record in the 4X200 relay.
First, the 100 hurdle run. Her 16.50 second run brought in a silver medal in that event.
Earlier in the high jump, Oravainen shared in the accolade of becoming of the school’s best in the event with a teammate on her side.
Oravainen’s leap of 5-04 is the new school mark with a silver-medal finish. Senior Peyton McKee was two inches shy of catching Oravainen, but her mark of 5-02 was good for a bronze medal and was a personal best mark.
Oravainen was then the second leg of the shattering of the short-lived 4X200 relay school record.
Along with Ashlynn England, Ogorchock and Spikerman, a gold-medal time of 1:40.30 was run three seconds better than the 1:43.21 run at Cypress Ranch Mustang Relays.
Johnson, the senior Oklahoma State signee, won the program’s lone individual gold. Johnson ran a 57.12 in the 400 run, topping Katy’s Madison Brooks by 1.35 seconds.
Senior Bella Eulitt got the running events going with a personal record in the 3,200. Eulitt earned bronze with a 12:10.55.
In the 100, Ogorchock ran a personal-best 12.27 for a silver medal while teammate Spikerman won bronze just behind her in 12.42.
England won silver in the 200 with a time of 25.97 while Emma Fangella was fifth with a personal record of 26.30.
England, Fangella, Brianna Artero and Gianna Gibson fell just short of the podium in the 4X100 with a fourth place time of 50.47, under two seconds behind Katy.
Senior Daylin DenHerder was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 49.63.
Senior pole vaulter Lucy DeWolf took home silver with a vault of 11-06.
Lake Creek has a busy week ahead with Thursday’s Katy Mayde Creek meet followed Friday and Saturday by the big Texas A&M Bluebonnet meet in College Station.
