Jhett Bubke provided the winning hit and Jackson Wilcox slammed the door in the bottom of the eight.
Not bad for a pair of sophomores.
Magnolia outlasted Klein Oak 2-1 Tuesday night to secure the season sweep over the Panthers in District 15-6A.
With the game tied 1-1 in the top of the eight and two runners on, Bubke singled home Chase Lowery to take the lead. Lowery walked to lead-off the inning.
In the bottom of the eighth, Brody Fortunato singled to start the inning.
Magnolia, however, was able to secure a 6-4-3 double play and Wilcox got the strikeout to secure the happy bus ride home.
Magnolia (7-3, 1-0) totaled seven hits and took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Ian Pugh, which scored Lowery.
Pugh was 2-for-4.
Senior Keegan Chavez, the winning pitcher in last week’s 4-2 win over Klein Oak (4-6-1, 0-2), went another five innings this time around. He didn’t allow a run on two hits. He struck out six and walked two.
Wilcox gave up the lone Klein Oak run in the sixth inning, but overall was solid in relief with three innings worked. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out one.
Magnolia has won two straight as it enters the Brenham Tournament Thursday-Saturday.
