Splendid Start: Magnolia girls track snags another team title

The beginning of the 2025 outdoor track and field season has gone pretty darned well so far for the Magnolia Bulldog girls.

For the second consecutive week, the Bulldogs took care of business for a meet championship as they won the Splendora Wildcat Relays with 128 points Wednesday afternoon. Magnolia beat out the host Wildcats, who finished with 84 points, as well as Nacogdoches, which finished with 82 points.

The event featured just running as the field events were canceled a day prior to due to poor conditions because of Tuesday’s rain.

Magnolia began the season last Friday with a win at the Katy Paetow Quad Meet and strongly built off of that. 

The Bulldogs swept Wednesday’s relays and earned seven individual medals.

The 400-meter run featured two Magnolia runners who won three total medals on the day. Freshman Amariah Molden finished with a silver in 59.68 seconds while junior Violet Unruh was third in just over a minute (1:00.03).

Molden and Unruh won gold medals in the 400 and 1,600 relays, respectively.

Joined by Aiyana Graham Knight and Gertrude Osafo in the 400 relay, the quartet ran a time of 48.74 seconds.

To cap the meet, Unruh, Molden, Knight Graham and Sophia Phillip won the 1,600 relay in 4:07.55, beating Splendora by just under two seconds (4:09.36).

Earlier in the day, Phillip won gold in the 800 run as she crossed the line in 2:17.22. Although they didn’t medal, respectively, Kiran Ripley was fourth in the race (2:28.51) while Khloe Horn was fifth (2:33.18).

Osafo earned a bronze medal in the 100 with a time of 12.93, just beating out teammate Kate Price (12.95). Osafo just missed the podium in the 200 with a fourth place finish in 26.90.

In the other gold medal-winning relay, Hannah Alvarez, Raegan Garcia, Hunter Hook and Price finished the 800 relay in 1:47.84.

Kinly Schanbacher started the day strong for Magnolia with a silver in the 3,200 in 12:00.40.

In the 1,600 run, Ripley was second (5:31.96) while Horn was third (5:34.76). Both marks were personal records.

Magnolia’s next scheduled meet is the Bubba Fife Relay at Katy Paetow.
