Week 8 football preview capsule: Dayton at Huntsville

Key player for Dayton: Senior Jaleel Kendrick has been steady as can be for the Broncos banged up offense. Kendrick’s 82 yards last week raised his season total to 442. He has four rushing scores on the season, all in the past four games.

Key player for Huntsville: Senior quarterback Austin Taylor tossed for 238 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s win over Montgomery, which handed the Bears their first loss of the season.

Stat attack: The Broncos are getting off to good starts to games. It led Lake Creek after the first drive last week and is averaging 6.8 points per game in the first quarter. Dayton has scored 34 of its 48 District 8-5A Division II points in the first half.

Notables: It was another tough week on the injury front as the Broncos lost junior athlete Denim Foster, making his second start of the season at quarterback, to a leg injury in the first quarter of a 57-17 loss to Lake Creek last Friday… The Broncos totaled 278 yards of offense last week and averaged 29.2 yards per reception … Wyatt Keasling was a big asset for the Broncos on offense and special teams last week, including a 62-yard pass on a trick play … Huntsville made a magical run to the Class 5A Division II semifinals last year before it fell to eventual state champion Port Neches-Groves … Speaking of PNG, the Indians handed the Hornets their lone district loss two weeks ago by a 24-21 score … Huntsville also lost to Brenham in Week 1 … Dayton is looking to avoid its first four-game losing streak since the end of last season.
