History: Klein Collins is 4-0 all-time against Magnolia. The teams met in non-district play Week 1 in 2022 (62-26) and 2023 (35-13). The Tigers and Bulldogs also played non-district games in 2004 and 2005.
Key player for Klein Collins: Senior defensive back Luis Vasquez was recognized as preseason Defensive Most Valuable Player by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. As the midway point of the season, Vasquez had 42 tackles and one pass broken up.
Key player for Magnolia: Junior kicker/punter Gavin Gonzales has been elite all season for the Bulldogs. In last week’s 45-14 win at Klein Forest, Gonzales booted a 41-yard field goal and was 7-for-7 on extra point attempts. He also punted once for 41 yards and pinned the Golden Eagles inside the 20.
Stat attack: Magnolia allowed a season-low 14 points last week, and that number doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story. The Bulldogs pitched a 31-0 shutout in the first half and the only touchdown allowed by the unit was in the fourth quarter with the second unit allowed (the other Klein Forest touchdown was a pick six). Magnolia allowed just 197 yards of total offense on the night.
Notables: Magnolia returns to Bulldog Stadium for its second-to-last home game of the season … Magnolia is 1-2 on its friendly confines this year … The win came Sept. 13 over Klein Oak … Klein Collins survived a 48-41 shootout with Tomball Memorial last Friday … The Tigers started District 15-6A play with 2-1 with wins over Magnolia West and Klein … Klein Collins lost 28-7 to Klein Oak two weeks back … This is a big matchup for playoff positioning as Magnolia maintains third place while Klein Collins is in fifth … The Tigers have 10-year playoff streak on the line.
