West Fork takes 18-5A opener over Dayton 3-2

Dayton went neck and neck with West Fork as District 18-5A got underway Tuesday night.

The Gators scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Derek Oradaz as West Fork prevailed 3-2.

Dayton (5-11, 0-1) and West Fork (9-4, 1-0) combined on six hits as Ordaz and Hunter Wallace went pitch-for-pitch.

As West Fork took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, Dayton matched that in the top of the third.

Zak Wood drew a bases loaded walk and Andrew Soliz reached on a fielder’s choice which scored a run.

Otherwise, the Broncos had just two hits. Wood doubled in the first inning and Anthony Zuniga was 1-for-4.

White went six innings for West Fork with four strikeouts and four walks. Both runs were earned. Luna pitched a scoreless seventh with a strikeout for the save.

Wallace struck out seven over six innings for Dayton. He allowed three earned runs on four hits and two walks.

Game 2 is Friday night at Dayton. The Broncos look to snap a five-game slide while West Fork has won two straight.
