2022 Crosby Cougars Football Preview

As the season begins to ramp up, a lot of eyes will be on the Crosby Cougars this season. Crosby finished with a 12-3 record with a loss in the state semi-finals last season to Liberty Hill.

Coach Prieto will once again be the head man for Crosby Football. Coach Prieto is returning for his 4th year as the Head Coach with a combined 30-12 record over his tenure.

When we talked with Coach Prieto and asked about his program’s success, he attributed it to the player/coach relationships.

“I believe our success is because of the relationship our staff have built with our kids” Prieto said. “When you have groups that are fighting for each other and not personal stats or glory, then you have a real chance when coupled with talented players to have special seasons.”

After a heartbreaking loss 42-14 to Liberty Hill, the cougars will be reloading an already very talented roster.  The experience that was gained from a December playoff run is not something that will go to waste.

“All the extra practices that we have had the past 2 years have really helped our younger kids really develop as football players. They have seen the grind and work ethic it takes to play in December. They understand what it takes to get back there and the hurt of falling short,” Prieto stated.

Cyrin Miles will be returning under center for the Cougars after a stellar Junior Season. Miles, an All-State honorable mention at QB last season, who checks all the boxes as a dual threat quarterback, will look to lead the Cougars for another deep playoff run. Miles threw for 2,470 yards last season with 32 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He also ran for another 1,357 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Coach Prieto is proud of the progression he has seen from Miles over the years not only on the field but in his leadership.

“He has always been that fiery competitor, but he leads this team” Prieto said. “He took over that role last year and has continued to grow. He is a special young man.”

The Cougars will have 22 seniors on the team. They will also be returning 7 starters on offense and 3 players on defense.

Senior, Braden Womack, who rarely came off the field last season will be returning for his senior year and will be an impact player offensively and defensively. Womack was awarded 1st team All-district at the wide receiver position and safety position last season.

Senior, Ayden Jones, who was forced to miss last season due to transfer rules will be a force at the middle linebacker position.

Senior, Kristian Roberson, will be looking to play both ways this season at the wide receiver and cornerback position.

Senior, David Ards, who has had a really good offseason and could be a big weapon at the TE/H-Back spot.

Some underclassmen that are going to make an impact on this very deep and talented roster will be:

Sophomore, Copelin Windfont, Inside Linebacker

Sophomore, Anson Johnson, Defensive Tackle

Junior, Levi Fontenot, Running Back

Junior, Wesley Yarbrough, Running Back

Junior, Kade Eudy, Quarterback/Wide Receiver

Junior, Levi Langley, Offensive Line

Junior, Gabriel Fernandez, Offensive Line.

The Crosby Cougars will be set to kick off the season against a very talented C.E. King Panthers team on August 26th.
