2022 New Caney Football Preview

2022 New Caney Football Preview

The New Caney Eagles football team is coming off a successful season that ended with another disappointing finish in the first round of the playoffs to Highland Park. The Eagles are looking to retool their roster this season with several key returning starters from last season’s team.

Coach Travis Reeve will be returning for his 3rd season as the Head Coach for the New Caney Eagles. Coach Reeve enters this season with a combined 12-10 record and is looking to continue to put his footprint on this team as he has on his previous state championship teams.

“We were really proud of the progress we made last season. I think we learned that when you play great teams that there is a fine line between winning and losing” Reeve said. “Not much separates those who win and those who lose. So hopefully, we can continue to get better and play more consistently down the stretch of the season.”

The Eagles will be relying heavily on Michigan State commit and senior running back Kedrick Reescano. Reescano, who is considered by many one of the top 4-star recruits in the nation. In 2021, Reescano had 217 carries for 1,542 yards (7.1 YPA) with 22 touchdowns. He also had 23 receptions for 333 yards (14.5 YPC) and 3 more touchdowns.

When we spoke with Reescano, the biggest improvement he wanted to make over the offseason was his leadership.

“I’ve really worked on my leadership as a whole this offseason and can’t wait to put it on display in the fall” Reescano said.

Coach Reeve has seen the leadership transfer onto the field as well as being in the weight room during the off-season. “He had a great offseason in the weight room” Reeve said. “He has gotten bigger and more explosive. I look forward to what is in store for his senior season.”

The Eagles enter this season with a question mark at the quarterback position. With the Eagles top passer graduating in 2022, They will look to fill that void left behind.

“We are excited about our replacement at the QB position” Reeve said. “He is going to have 10 other guys around him, with some veteran playmakers being a part of that group. Don’t try to do too much, just be himself and we will be fine.”

Coach Reeve will be retuning 20 seniors back on the roster with 6 starters on offense and 7 on defense.

Defensively, the Eagles will be returning Utah commit CJ Blocker in the secondary along with 1st team all-district corner back Dravon Wilson. Tayte Baker will also be returning to anchor the defensive line and looking to improve on his 6 sack season.

Offensively, look for Kedrick Reescano to continue to dominate his opposition in every facet of the game. Senior, Kendall Dove will have a significant impact at TE and returning Senior, Albert Pearson and Junior Blaine Lucas will look to solidify the receiver positions. Junior, Kayden Cooper who will make his transition from DB to starting QB could be a real impact player this season.

The New Caney Eagles will take on the Montgomery Bears on August 26th to kick off the 2022 Season.
